A Midsummer Night’s Dream
By William Shakespeare
This play, one of William Shakespeare’s greatest comedies, revolves around the adventures of four young lovers, a group of amateur actors and what happens to them when they visit a moonlit forest filled with fairies. Taking place in midsummer, the young lovers Hermia & Lysander and Helena & Demetrius, find their romantic intrigues confused and complicated when they cross paths with Oberon, the King of the Fairies and his Queen, Titania, who are at war with one another. Puck (or Robin Goodfellow) is an imp who further complicates matters. Other visitors to the magic wood include Bottom the weaver and his workmen friends who attempt to rehearse their terrible but hilarious version of the play, The Tragedy of Pyrmus and Thisbe, for the Duke Theseus’ wedding to Hippolyta, Queen of the Amazons. They, too, find themselves in fairy trouble…
